Patrick Dagg – Crash Paintings
From 10 February until 11 February 2012, Patrick Dagg will present a unique solo exhibition
Crash Paintings at Ground Floor, 583 Elizabeth Street, Redfern.Since 2007, Melbourne-born Dagg has created works that explore the fragility of the human form through large scale abstract paintings and portraiture, with exhibitions at China Heights Gallery, Kudos Gallery and UNSW Roundhouse Building.
“Crash Paintings is a collection of work created in response to a serious car accident I had recently. It has been three years since my last show and the accident gave me the inspiration for this new direction,” says Dagg.
The exhibition is a combination of paintings and hand painted ceramics which complement
each other with their movement and energy. Lines of colour twist and blend into each other,
flourishing in a world full of imagination and intensity.Working in disabilities for the last ten years has given Dagg a unique perspective on life which is strikingly evident in his work. “Every day I work with people with acquired brain injuries and I consider myself very lucky I wasn’t seriously hurt in the accident. As a society we often take our health for granted and we should celebrate what we have more often. The crash has kind of opened me back up and given me the courage to paint freely again,” says Dagg.
