FUR x POMS x DAYCARE

YOU GOTTA GET IT ! THIS SUNDAY ONLY @ DAY CARE

Brian Damage

Uncovered an important Noise In My Head artifact while cleaning my desk today – a recording of our first ever guest DJ set, which aired just shy of the show’s two year anniversary back in December 2007. Mixed live by Misha Hollenbach under the alias ‘Brian Damage’, this collision of counterculture weirdo, dissonant acid house, post-punk, Balearic classics and break beats was a major catalyst in the evolution of our sound and form. It threw me completely into a new musical world and challenged me to rethink the show’s approach and possibilities. From here things just grew bigger and better. As we opened the flood gates to invite contributors from all corners, Misha returned on a quarterly basis as Bobby Gelati, Balearic James, Balearic James Bitch, Artie Stacatto, Boy George Michael, DJ Dreams, Tony Panettone, Tiny Pepperoni, DJ Reference Material, Sleepy Time Deejay etc. While his mixes never disappoint, Brian Damage captures a particularly raw and agitated punk energy.

Amber B Come Back Home!

My friend Amber B has created an emotive stop animation video for the Japanther tune “Come Back Home”. There is a sweet message and story behind this project, explained here in the words of Amber herself…

In a homage to Beau Velasco, Japanther wrote the song, “Come Back Home”. Beau was a very special creature; compassionate, full of love, crazy and creative as hell. I met him when I was only 17 years old, and consider him a beloved friend to this day. As long as I knew him, he struggled with anxiety and depression, and three years ago, sadly, he lost that fight. The song spoke directly to our heart, and so, Kirk and I were inspired to create a music video.

The video is created with the stop-motion style. Painstakingly, each frame is cut out of paper and shot, then moved and shot again until it resembles a moving image, like vintage cartoons. It took over 2000 frames to create the music video, and was edited by the handsome Kirk Dianda.

If you happen to be in LA, “Come Back Home” premieres on the 25th of April with Japanther at The Smell.

In addition, Amber has made a zine featuring still frames from the video, and photos by Ian Vanek from Japanther. Numbered and signed, zines can be purchased here for $5.

You can also buy one of the 15 original cells used in the animation here.

Proceeds from all sales will be donated to a depression and anxiety charity.

Dave’s Shed Show and Twerps

Our mates the Twerps bless us with Dreamin’ on episode 3 of Dave’s Shed Show alongside John Safran and James Kerley’s kettle cooked Eggs Benedict…

Radio Rhythm

For the last three weeks I’ve been bouncing around the US on a combo of work and leisure. I got a chance to dig around LA before heading down to Austin for SXSW, absorbing great live music from Michael Kiwanuka, R Stevie Moore, Twerps and Blondes. After a few days in NYC I was looking at my on-the-road record collection, thinking to myself that there was a solid internet radioshow in there. Later that night I had a rather serendipitous encounter with ‘BLT’, a local enthusiast who kindly invited me onto his internet radioshow Radio Rhythm, which broadcasts weekly on a year old web-station called ‘B-Box’. Recorded in his Bed-Stuy bedroom/studio, Radio Rhythms is raw radio operating from the bare essentials. A carpenter by trade, BLT custom made the console! We threw some homely tea and herbs in the mix and let the show fly (listen to the results here). BLT then prepared one of his trademark sandwiches which we enjoyed on the roof (a very Brooklyn experience).

NYC you are always good to me.

Much respect to all of the internet/pirate radio shows around the globe!
