Pre-Fall Fun: Pants
After the ultra-feminine ’50s revival looks put forth by Marni, Prada, Miu Miu, Rochas, Proenza, Louis and basically everybody in SS12, the pre-fall looks appear to indicate a bit of a backlash. Chloe (far left) and Celine (far right) presented super baggy, sculptured pants and Rochas, Stella McCartney and many others all exhibited collections worked heavily around the man suit. A cyclic turn that in retrospect seems totally predictable (obviously trends change with each season), however this change, especially that of Celine’s feels so original and offbeat. Can’t wait for the full fall lines to see if bigger, will be better : )Collage by Laila Sakini, images: Chloe, Celine, Clements Ribeiro, Rochas, Stella McMCartney, Celine ‘(again!).
Turned Out Tuned Up
My favourite blog-owner, collage artist and neato photographer Maya Villiger has relaunched her blog, Turned Out.
These guys had a hand in it and it feels right, like elements have converged to bring the only other website I check every day (apart from The Blackmail, duh!) to where it needs to be.
I have used some screen shots from the new site here but I highly recommend you check out the real thing. Justin’s Apartment
Welcome to the home of my intern Justin and his boyfriend Troy. I first met Justin as an art collector interested mostly in Kate Smith, and our friendship grew from there. Justin and Troy’s collection includes work from Sean Bailey, Thomas Jeppe, Jess Lucas, Lizzy Newman, Kate Smith, Esther Stuart, Alex Vivian and Paul Wotherspoon.
Test Pressing – A Random Function #1
Good to see regular contributions are rolling in over here. The Blackmail now returns to my list of daily visits alongside London based Test Pressing. Run by Paul Byrne, who produces music and DJs under the alias of Apiento, the multi-faceted Test Pressing documents the past, present and future of Balearic culture. It’s expansive offering covers everything from scanned magazine articles from 70/80/90s music bibles, features on record sleeve designers Jean-Paul Goude, Barney Bubbles and Andy Warhol, taped BBC6 transmissions, audio documentaries, reports on new balearic inclined releases and a growing archive of mixtapes contributed by the world’s finest. There’s certainly something in there for everyone and don’t be overwhelmed if you’ve come in late – Paul has just launched a pdf compendium of site highlights including chats with Compass Point Allstar Wally Badarou and former Cafe Del Mar DJ Phil Mison as well as photos spreads of Factory’s Hacienda and Keith Haring visiting The Le Mans 24 Hour in 1984. Load it on your ipad and find a nice tree to spend the afternoon under!

Andéol Presents ‘Vedas Maya’ Exhibition
Emilie Cacace of Andéol will be presenting her new digital scarf and Jewellery collection ‘Vedas Maya’, along with Illustrations from Tom Robey and Photographs by Eleanor Ackland on Monday the 30th of January.
Andéol is a project initiated by textile designer Emilie Cacace using original art digitally printed on various base cloths to create silk scarves, printed cushions and plaited silks embellished with pendants of minerals, gems and naturally-occurring materials. Each collection takes inspiration from photographs, textiles and findings gathered from a yearly trip somewhere in the world.
The exhibition will be showcasing Emilie, Tom, and Eleanor’s experiences and inspirations from their recent trip to India to shoot Andéol’s latest collection ‘Vedas Maya’.
Vedas Maya will be shown at-
Fraser Studios, 10-14 Kensington Street, Chippendale, NSW (left at the Clare Hotel, off Broadway).
Along with music by SLOWBLOW, food by SandwichFace, henna, plaited hair wraps, and Indian-spiced punch.
DRESS UP in context
Stephanie Downey of Dress Up is my friend. This means that I am privy to a lot of inside information about her design inspiration, references and the ‘meaning’ of pieces in her collections. Now as much as I have enjoyed the freehold of this somewhat exclusive information I am glad she recently decided to share it more with the world. Further, I am glad that Stephanie has decided to relay it in a purely visual way, with these explicit collages which reveal her pre-design intentions for post-purchase use. See-what-I-see on her fairly new blog and learn about all the cool things from outside of fashion that make Dress Up so fashionable.
Visit Flimby
I’m really into the Visit Flimby website from New Balance. So good to see a brand representing their roots still.
