Gavin Russom on Noise In My Head
Posted by Michael K

Late night 3RRR radio program Noise in My Head is back on the airwaves after a seven week hiatus during which I drifted through Japan, Germany, Holland and the US scouring record shops, flea markets and private sellers’ collections for new sounds to introduce to listeners’ ear gear. While in Berlin I was fortunate enough to interview visionary musician-artist Gavin Russom over a Adana Kebab at Kreuzberg’s best Turkish restaurant. We spoke in depth about the album which DFA have just released for Russom’s solo project Black Meteoric Star. Produced with Russom’s trademark homemade analog technology, Black Meteoric Star is throbbing hypnotic acid house fused with the underground Detroit experiments of Underground Resistance and Jeff Mills.
In the same breath Russom handed me an amazingly weird hour-long psychedelic mix which will broadcast on 3RRR Melbourne this Sunday 10 to midnight. This is one of many exclusive mixes that NIMH will feature over the next months. The companion interview is due to appear in a future issue of Mountain Fold.
