Two Tarts in Taz
Text: CC Bakes

So I took my fellow on a surprise birthday weekend to Tasmania last week. Only I let the cat out of the bag a couple of days early, so the surprise wasn’t as surprising as planned. Nonetheless, it was a great trip to the Southern state, brief but memorable. One of the best parts was the raspberry cheesecake tart I ate on Saturday afternoon at about 2:47pm, yep, that’s how memorable it was. It was from a great little bakery called Jackman & McRoss, a bit of an institution in Hobart. So I strolled through sunny streets of Battery Point to this daytime noshery for a spot of lunch. The display cabinet upon entry had me at hello, it was an array of delightful baked goods – bread, pastries, pies, quiches, muffins, cakes and tarts. Of which I could not resist. I had a delicious slice of the goats cheese tart, he had a lamb and rosemary pie, we shared and salad. And then came desert.
I saw that as the birthday cake of sorts, and no one could have made one better. I was so excited I even serenaded him with a triumphant and public singing of Happy Birthday, tart in hand.
If you go to Hobart with or even for a tart, it’s worth it.
