Small Spotted Eggs
Posted by CC Bakes

While grazing through the poultry section of the market the other day something caught my eye. A small collection of spotted eggs sitting atop the counter above all the chicken carcasses, from a Quail. Now, as many women know, mini things are just so cute, and as such, I bought a carton of these small spotted things.
So now I have the task of doing something with them, cooking them. You see, Quail eggs are a delicacy in some places. The Japanese use them raw in sushi, while in the Philippines kwek-kwek is a hawker food specialty, where soft-boiled Quail eggs are dipped in orange-colored batter before being skewered and deep-fried. However in Columbia Quail eggs are less exotic and usually eaten boiled and atop hot dogs or in hamburgers. Soley due to their appearance, to me they look delicate, and certainly I do not eat small spotted things every day, so I want to use them well.
Some more insight here is this: I don’t love birds, I am quite afraid of them to say the least, it is a complex/phobia of sorts. That aside, or with that in mind, I am not adverse to eating pretty much any kind of bird, or their eggs. Rather, am quite excited at the prospect of making something delicious with these quail eggs. Think of mini fried eggs on toast, mini boiled eggs in an egg cup (a mini one), or poached mini eggs on a salad. The list goes on.
You can also cover them in dukkah and chopped parsley, but in the meantime, while snooping around for eggs and/or mini things, check out Egg Unlimited
