<br />
Italian for 'half cold', this class of semi-frozen deserts one of my favourites. Because I love semi-melted ice cream, it makes sense to me that this is not completely frozen.
<br />
Typically ice cream cakes or semi-frozen custards, semifreddo usually has the texture of frozen mousse, produced by combining ice cream and whipped cream.
<br />
This one was a vanilla and hazelnut semi, with pink sherbet and a dehydrated orange on top. It is the type of decadent desert Marie Antoinette would have eaten when she ran out of cake.
<br />
Drunk with sweet glass of William Downie Petit Manseng.
<br />
<em>Another delicious taste of what comes every Tuesday from <a href="http://www.theblackmail.com.au/caroline-clements/">CC Bakes</a>.

<br />
There are few more substantial ways to start your day than with three massive whole wheat pancakes stacked high with fresh fruit and dizzled in maple syrup. On a warm summer's day, just a few hours out of New York city in a little town called Montauk, we went in search of a local pancake roadhouse to fill our hungry tummies. There, sitting waiting for us on the other side of the road was <a href="http://www.montauklife.com/john898.html"target="_blank">John's Pancake House</a>. Thanks to John, the interior of his pancake parlour had barely been touched since the 70s, and everyone inside was filling up on hearty sweet sugary fried batter with numerous toppings.
<br />
Though I could barely finish a third of this delicious colourful plate, the large bucksome waitress proceeded to tell me that 'the trick' was not to drink anything prior to consuming the fried cakes. Shame I had that coffee before hand.

<br />
It is the unusual colour that draws ones attention to the Black Russian tomatoes sitting at the fruit and vegetable stand. Growing well in cooler regions, the Black Russian tomato is another great wintery addition to your kitchen stocks. Though, as a specialty seed, these little suckers also come with a price tag more weighty than their red cousins.
<br />
Sharing their name with a cocktail of vodka and coffee liqueur, this heirloom fruit has been around for hundreds of years, and like many black flowers, is actually purple in colour, though they often look quite green and Christmasy. The riper they get the darker they become, and the flavour is quite acidic. Best to serve in salads for colour or sliced on top of crunchy toast with some salty goats cheese or feta.
<br />
<em>Another delicious taste of what comes every Tuesday from <a href="http://www.theblackmail.com.au/caroline-clements/">CC Bakes</a>.
