D.I.Y. Or DIE

I’ve posted my fair share of ‘do-it-yourself’ features over the past year (happy bday Blackmail!), but it seems that we shall never see the end of the D.I.Y. movement. From tie dye and friendship bracelets through to nail art and bedazzling, customization has been setting spirits free since the popularization of macrame in the 70′s. Just this week I became acquainted with two rather impressive D.I.Y guides – “cool new” brand iArtist London are marketing impressively packaged gift-worthy D.I.Y. kits, filled with everything you need to replicate the most valuable and iconic artists from our era (think Damien Hirsts Diamond Skull, or Marc Quinn’s human blood scuplture) – pretty cool.

Secondly, picking up where the girls from Bleach-Black left off, fashion and jewelry design blog P.S. I Made This has collaborated with some big names in creating customized looks straight from the catwalk (and at a fraction of the price). Some of these are surprisingly accurate, like the Proenza inspired Scuba sweater, and yet others appear crafty and homemade – see BBQ fork brooch (the name says it all). Whether you choose to use customization as a tool to emulate a particular trend or designer, or as a stepping stone to realize your own creative vision, these kits and guides are a great way to get started. My favourite is the White Wash Home Ornaments, even though my boyfriend tells me this is mega lame.

Fish Curry

I love that Indian food is so great in cold weather. This is a Southern Indian fish curry. Light and fresh, not too heavy on the coconut milk. We accompanied it with a tomato, green bean and almond salad, black sesame rice, coconut banana and papadums. Just something I threw together. Indian food is amazingly easy to cook, and it makes you sweat.

Another delicious taste of what comes every Tuesday from CC Bakes.
